LIQUEUR

Liqueurs are alcoholic beverages made from distilled, flavored with any of the following: fruits, creams, herbs, spices, flowers or nuts. Traditionally derived from herbal medicines, they are generally sweet and tend to be syrup-like in consistency because of the presence of sugar or other sweeteners. Liqueurs are used to create cocktails by mixing them with other spirits and alcoholic spirits, in cooking, in dessert preparation or in coffee and other drinks. Because of their different flavors and methods of preparation via infusion or distillation, their alcohol content can vary anywhere form 15% ABV to up to 55% ABV in some cases. Another word for liqueurs commonly used is schnapps or cordials.
